The article discusses the passage of the Wilderness Act in 1964 by the U.S. Congress, signed President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 3 of that year. Scholar and environmentalist William Cronon notes the pitfall of wilderness noting that reliance on such concept may leave people little hope of discovering what an ethical, sustainable, honorable human place in nature might actually look like.
