Abstract: |
The article discusses the medieval city of Hampi, also known as Vijayanagara, in southern India. More specifically, the authors, archaeologists who have worked at the site since 1980, discuss the city's history, paying particular focus to the development during the past several decades of a bazaar located near the medieval ruins, and comment on how best to manage and protect the city's living heritage. It is noted that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has recently evicted the local community. |
