Archaeologist Basem Gehad discovered a significant piece of lost ancient literature in a third-century a.d. pit grave in the necropolis of the ancient city of Philadelphia, Egypt. The discovery included a papyrus fragment with Greek text that was later identified as part of a lost play by the fifth-century b.c. Greek tragedian Euripides. The text contains excerpts from Euripides' plays Polyidus and Ino, shedding light on the themes and language of Athenian tragedy and how these texts were used in Roman-era performances and rhetoric.
