Abstract: |
The article discusses the transformation of the former Jones Plaza in downtown Houston into the new Lynn Wyatt Square for the Performing Arts. Designed by RIOS, the square serves as an inclusive green space that brings music, theater, and dance outdoors. The plaza features meandering footpaths, an open lawn, Gateway Gardens, a cascading water feature, and four flexible performance configurations. The design is inspired by the concept of "urban choreography" and aims to create intersections and places for people to interact. The project also includes a restaurant pavilion and abundant seating. The transformation of the plaza has reduced hardscape, increased plantings and trees, and improved stormwater management and biodiversity. [Extracted from the article] |
