Abstract: The current study applied a latent profile analysis (LPA) to measures of autism traits collected from a sample of 1,018 university participants to test the research question of whether autism characteristics represent a unitary spectrum or a fractionation. Findings revealed the presence of four latent profiles of autism features that varied mainly by degree except for the trait of attention to detail suggesting that it should be regarded as a unique facet of autism traits. Hence, these results provide some support for the fractional nature of the autism continuum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
