The article explores the infatuation of British King George IV as a teenager with Mary Hamilton, one of the attendants of his sister, based on letters written by Hamilton and the prince in 1779. Topics discussed include the distress and discomfort caused by the attention of the prince to Hamilton, efforts of Hamilton to preserve her reputation by accepting the friendship of the prince instead of his declaration of love, and encounters of Hamilton with the prince after leaving the court. |
