Abstract: |
This article discusses the Islamic State's gendered violence and persecution of minorities, specifically focusing on the Yezidi community. The authors highlight the group's ideology of strict gender roles, which contributed to widespread gender-based violence. They also discuss the challenges of repatriation and the need for accountability and justice for the victims. The article emphasizes the ongoing perpetration of gendered violence by the Islamic State, even without a physical caliphate, and the failure of the international community to respond effectively. The authors call for inclusive and locally driven accountability measures, as well as increased Yezidi representation in Iraq's government. [Extracted from the article] |
