Abstract: Examined the academic and enrollment characteristics and persistence rates of first-time beginning students in 1995-1996 who received a Pell grant and compared them with beginning students who did not receive a Pell Grant using data from the Beginning Post-secondary Students Longitudinal Survey. After taking a number of variables into account, the analysis did not find a difference between persistence for Pell Grant recipients and non-recipients. (SLD)
