Background: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a relatively common disorder and is typically diagnosed clinically. NF1 is commonly associated with different autoimmune diseases. The association between NF1 and Type 1DM is rarely reported in the literature. Case: We are presenting the first report of two children who are known to have Neurofibromatosis-1 and congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia and during their treatment, they developed type 1 DM. Conclusion: Neurofibromatosis-1 is a multi-systemic disorder, and its management involves various medical and surgical specialties. Before embarking on major limb reconstruction for CPT, the Orthopaedic surgeon is requested to consider other systemic involvements. A high suspicion index should draw the attention of the treating surgeon in case the child develops any symptoms or signs suggestive of any systemic disorder. |
