Anatomy of a Collapse: In May 2009 a practice facility used by the Dallas Cowboys collapsed during a storm, injuring a dozen people. As determined by a subsequent investigation, several design errors precipitated the failure of the structure in winds far less severe than the nominal design wind speed. This article summarizes the results of an investigation that included a comparison of the wind loads used in the original design with the provisions of the ASCE standard Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures
