Abstract: |
Prior seismic events have clearly shown that site amplification is the main factor that damages infrastructures built on sediment in earthquake-prone cities. This research aims to obtain site amplification by performing 1D site response analysis using the standard penetration test (SPT) and shear wave velocity data of the Dhaka Metropolitan Development Plan (DMDP) area of Bangladesh. Furthermore, the 1D analysis result has been compared using an experimental microtremor analysis approach. Using both linear and nonlinear methods, a computer programme named DEEPSOIL was employed to estimate 1D site responses for the fifty locations chosen for the study. Besides, each of the fifty selected locations that have been chosen has had a microtremor recording done, and site amplification has been calculated using the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) technique. According to the detailed site-specific analysis, the research area's amplification factors for nonlinear and equivalent linear analyses vary from 3.1 to 5.5 and 3.8 to 8.5, respectively, while the amplification factors for microtremor analysis range from 1.3 to 6.6. The amplification is greater in regions with deep and soft Holocene deposits than in areas with shallow valleys of Pleistocene deposits with artificially filled sand or any clay in the top layer. The findings of this research will be useful for analyzing seismic hazards in the DMDP area. |
