Abstract: This article describes some factors to be considered in the psychotherapy of adolescent athletes. It points out that an adolescent's experience in sports will be influenced by developmental issues and family dynamics. Sports may become a source of problems for the adolescent, as well as an arena for the expression of problems that originate elsewhere. The therapy will be influenced by the relative weight assigned to personal, family, and performance issues in the overall clinical picture.
