Abstract: We demonstrate the ability of a new alternating polyfluorene (APFO) type polymer employing dialkoxythiophene moieties to operate efficiently as both an electrochromic (EC) and electroluminescent (EL) material, thereby providing for incorporation into a dual EC/EL device. In addition, the new APFO type polymer was blended with PC[70]BM in a bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cell resulting in a power conversion efficiency of 1.66% with a high open circuit voltage of 0.87 volts.
