Abstract: The article discusses research which examined mortality after hip fracture among Black and White women in Kaiser Permanente Northern Caliornia, an integrated healthcare system. The study evaluated age, diabetes mellitus and prior fracture and calculated a Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI). It compared group differences and analyzed the association of race and mortality outcome adjusting for age, calendar year, fracture type, CCI and prior fracture and diabetes.
