In this essay we explain how the New Spain who read in 1788 the manuscript with the only Spanish translation that exists of Amusement philosophique sur la langage des Bestes by Guillaume-Hyacinthe Bougeant, misinterpreted the content of the satirical text and found themselves immersed in a process for heretical propositions, when they were denounced before the Court of the Holy Office of the Inquisition of Mexico City. En este ensayo explicamos cómo un grupo de novohispanos que leyeron en 1788 el manuscrito con la única traducción castellana que existe del Amusement philosophique sur la langage des Bestes de Guillaume-Hyacinthe Bougeant, interpretaron de manera equívoca el contenido del texto satírico, y se vieron inmersos en un proceso por proposiciones heréticas al ser denunciados ante el Tribunal del Santo Oficio de la Inquisición de la ciudad de México.
