Abstract (English): The article titled "The Gagged Word. Literature Censored by the Inquisition" is a review of Margarita Peña's book that examines the censorship of literature by the Inquisition in New Spain. The book compiles poems, edicts, and testimonies that reveal the existence of two literatures: an official one and a censored one. These rescued texts allow us to understand the dissenting culture of New Spain and establish a connection with our current way of thinking and living. The author highlights the importance of Margarita Peña's work in revealing these hidden aspects of history and the relationship between discourse and control exercised by the Inquisition.
