Abstract: In 2023, there was a significant increase in the number of articles published on microglia, the primary immune cells of the brain. These articles explored the role of microglia in brain development, health, and disease. One study identified the role of the Rho GTPase Rac1 in microglia biology and brain plasticity, while another study focused on the cell-autonomous effects of APOE4 expression in microglia in Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, a new protocol called FEAST was introduced to study microglia phagocytosis. These advancements have the potential to greatly impact biomedical research and our understanding of microglia biology. [Extracted from the article]
