Abstract: This article discusses the association between second-generation antipsychotic medications and the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). The study analyzed data from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) and found that olanzapine and quetiapine were disproportionately associated with an increased rate of VTE and pulmonary embolism (PE). However, it is unclear if the increased risk is due to the antipsychotics themselves or underlying risk factors. The study suggests that further research is needed to understand the differences among antipsychotics in relation to VTE risk and their potential mechanisms of action. [Extracted from the article]
