Abstract: |
The article discusses the benefits of summer programs for students and institutions. It highlights the experiences of a student named Jordan Twitty, who participated in pre-college programs at the College of Charleston, which helped her make her decision to attend the college. The article also mentions other summer programs, such as Maker's Mark at Marymount University, which not only bring in revenue but also increase student interest in the university. Taking summer courses has been found to improve GPAs and increase student retention. However, counselors should ensure that students understand the resources available during the summer and the potential challenges of studying during that time. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of counselors familiarizing themselves with local summer programs to help position students for success. [Extracted from the article] |
