Abstract: The article discusses the noninvasive assessment of portal hypertension based on the Baveno VII criteria. The study focuses on the use of aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI), liver stiffness (LS), and spleen stiffness (SS) to exclude varices needing treatment (VNT) in children and adolescents with biliary atresia (BA). The authors suggest that EGD screening for esophageal varices can be avoided in certain cases based on specific criteria. The article also highlights the use of noninvasive tests, such as elastography techniques and laboratory parameters, to predict clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) and high-risk varices (HRV) in patients with chronic advanced liver diseases. However, the authors acknowledge the need for further research and larger sample sizes to validate these findings. [Extracted from the article]
