Abstract: In fall 2021, reddish and wilting of leaves and crown rot were observed on cauliflower plants with an incidence of up to 60% in a field in Eboli, South Italy. The causal agent was identified as Globisporangium perplexum based on morphological features of the colonies and by microscopy analyses. The identification was further confirmed by sequencing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of rDNA. The pathogenicity tests reproduced symptoms under laboratory conditions that matched those observed in the field. To our knowledge, this is the first report of Globisporangium perplexum causing crown rot and wilting on cauliflower in Italy and worldwide. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
