Abstract: |
We strongly recommend preventive approaches for XP patients to minimize the number of necessary excisions and the incidence of tumours and facilitate the early recognition of cutaneous tumours in this population. Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare genetic disorder that precipitates field cancerization in sun-exposed areas, causing abnormalities that can progress to skin cancers.[1] Sun protection is the chief intervention strategy for XP patients, but this approach is often insufficient. We have proposed a chemoprophylaxis protocol with topical imiquimod for XP patients, noting RCM and histological benefits of this strategy, with no serious adverse events.
