Abstract: The article discusses research on chemogenetic suppression of social behavior–activated gamma-aminobutyric acid-releasing (GABAergic) neurons in the prelimbic (PrL) area disrupting social novelty behaviors. The new and old mouse exploration–preferred interneurons (NewPNs and OldPNs) of GABAergic interneurons in the PrL were responsible for new and old mouse exploration. Social novelty information may be encoded by the responses of NewPNs and OldPNs in the PrL area via synergistic actions.
