Abstract: Measurement of 7Be by AMS was developed with the MALT 5UD Pelletron at the University of Tokyo. 7Be16O− and 9Be16O− negative ions were injected sequentially to the accelerator at a terminal voltage of 4.8 MV, and after passing through a high-energy analyzing magnet, 7Be3+ was converted to 7Be4+ by a carbon-foil stripper to eliminate interference of 7Li3+, and then detected without any background. The sensitivity for the 7Be/9Be ratio was about 2x10−16 and the precision for the 7Be/9Be ratio was 4.4% (1σ) in replicate measurements of standard samples for over 30 h. The advantage of AMS over γ-ray counting appears in measurements of samples with 7Be activity of 0.1 Bq or less. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
