Abstract: The site of Jamal Garhi after its discovery by A. Cunningham in 1848, was excavated only by military officers and engineers of the Army and finally it was plundered by a certain "Colonel Sahib" who, it is said, removed some twelve camels' loads of statues (Dar 1990: 182). The situation changed with the Archaeological Survey of India in 1907-1908 (Foucher 1915: 4) and in 1920- 1923. Almost 100 years later, in 2012 the Directorate of Archaeology and Museum Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa decided to undertake a trial excavation at the site of Jamal Garhi. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
