Abstract: |
The article explores the depiction of Jewish spiritual stasis with earliest extant images of the Wandering Jew in Matthew Paris's book "Chronica Majora" and Claire Donovan's "The de Brailes hours." Topics include awaiting the Second Coming and acting as living witness of the time of the Passion; interpretating wandering Jew's displacement as symbolic of the Jewish diaspora; and tripartite nature of medieval anti-Jewish temporality. |
