Abstract: This article discusses the intergenerational trauma of genocide and the importance of connecting and caring for each other beyond biological relatedness, shared religion, and specific cultural trappings. It highlights the connection between Raphael Lemkin, the Polish jurist who coined the term genocide, and the Armenian genocide. The article also explores Lemkin's personal experiences with anti-Semitism and the Holocaust, as well as his efforts to establish the United Nations Genocide Convention. It raises questions about the ongoing genocidal acts in Gaza, Azerbaijan's conquest of the Armenian homeland, and other instances of genocide and forced displacement around the world. The article emphasizes the need to recognize and address the systemic restriction of rights, forced displacement, and serious harm inflicted on targeted groups as early signs of genocide. It concludes by calling for action to fill the hollows left by the delayed ratification of the Genocide Convention. [Extracted from the article]
