More Details: | Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to assess quality of life (QoL) of rural women with locomotor disability. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with 160 women with locomotor disability in Salem district, Tamil Nadu, India from September 2023 to June 2024. The World Health Organization quality of life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) scale was used to measure the quality of life and it has four domains; physical health, psychological health, social relationships and environment health. Results Of the 160 respondents, 64% were aged between 30 and 50, 81% were literate and 62.5% were employed. Nearly two-third of them were living in joint family and family income from Rs. 10,000–20,000 and received high social support. Half of the respondents were belonging to backward class and 49% were following Hindu religion. Sixty-three (40%) had disability due to accident and 68% perceived negatively about their health condition. Moderate QoL was observed in in all the four domains. The family is determining the domain of physical health. The community and religion are determining the domain of social relationships. The factors of age, income and social support is determining the domain of environmental health. Conclusion The study observed that the QoL was major concern for the women with locomotor disability. Periodical screening and proper care are important to detect the illness earlier. Social inclusion program and policy is needed for improving the social relationships of women with locomotor disability. Multidisciplinary approaches are required to improve the QoL of women with locomotor disability. |
