Abstract (English): This article offers the partial results of a quantitative research carried out on a medium-sized population of Lara State, Venezuela, whose objective is to evaluate the relationship between the characteristics of the work and the implementation of the incentive system in the organization. It begins with a review of the literature, within the framework of the theory of organization, the characteristics of work in its dimensions of variety and complexity, and the organizational design variable incentive systems: intrinsic and extrinsic. From the theoretical framework, two research hypotheses are derived that enunciate a positive relationship between the characteristics of the work and the applied incentive system. For the processing of data, statistical tests of multivariate analysis were used, supported by the SPSS 23.0 program. The results show that mainly the variety of work is positively related to the implementation of intrinsic and extrinsic incentives in the organization; however, the complexity of the work is only related to the implementation of intrinsic incentive systems. Abstract (Spanish): Este artículo ofrece los resultados parciales de una investigación de carácter cuantitativo llevada a cabo sobre una población de medianas empresas del Estado Lara, Venezuela, cuyo objetivo es evaluar la relación entre las características del trabajo y la implementación del sistema de incentivos en la organización. Se inicia con la revisión de la literatura, dentro del marco de la teoría de la organización, de las características del trabajo en sus dimensiones de variedad y complejidad, y la variable de diseño organizativo sistemas de incentivos: intrínsecos y extrínsecos. Del marco teórico, se derivan dos hipótesis de investigación que enuncian una relación positiva entre las características del trabajo y el sistema de incentivos aplicado. Para el procesamiento de datos, se emplearon pruebas estadísticas de análisis multivariante, apoyado en el programa SPSS 23.0. Los resultados muestran que principalmente la variedad del trabajo está positivamente relacionada con la implementación de incentivos intrínsecos y extrínsecos en la organización; sin embargo, la complejidad del trabajo solo está relacionada con la implementación de sistemas de incentivos intrínsecos.
