Abstract: | The article discusses the ethics of dementia research in Australia in relation to capacity, the legal rights of dementia patients, and the Australian National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research as of September 2013. Informed consent is addressed in relation to ethical human research. Personal autonomy and the concept of substitute judgment are mentioned, along with proxy decision-makers. The Mini Mental State Examination and the British Mental Capacity Act 2005 are examined. |
