Abstract: A general formalism is presented to obtain an analytical solution of the radiative transfer equations for polarized radiation when the absorption Mueller matrix for the Stokes parameters is constant along the ray-path. The formalism is then applied to find an analytical approximation of the Stokes parameters profiles for a typical chromospheric line having an optical-depth dependence of the source function of the form S(τ) = (ɛ + δ)(1 + ɛ).
