Abstract: This article summarizes a study published in the European Journal of Epidemiology that examines the use of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for treating ischemic stroke in France. The study analyzed data from the French national hospital discharge database over a two-year period to evaluate the number of MTs performed and identify factors associated with mortality. The results showed an increase in the number of MTs performed, with regular MT centers performing the majority of procedures. Factors such as age, length of hospital stay, comorbidities, and gender were found to be associated with mortality. The study suggests that decentralized care with the development of medium-sized centers could improve access to MT without increasing mortality rates. [Extracted from the article]
