Abstract: The article focuses on the use of phosphatidylethanol (PEth) testing to monitor alcohol consumption in liver transplant recipients with alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). It highlights the effectiveness of PEth as a direct biomarker for detecting recent alcohol use, offering an objective alternative to self-reports, which often underreport alcohol consumption. It examines risk factors for posttransplant return to alcohol use, such as younger age, mental health comorbidities.
